Documents / Apostilles, legalisation and translation
Apostilles, translations and documents prepared for their real purpose
A residence appointment, a child's enrolment or a property transaction can stall because the right document arrived in the wrong form. The solution is to work backwards from the receiving authority: which document it needs, who must authenticate it and which translation it will accept.
EXOBASIS obtains and prepares the agreed documents, organises the necessary professional work and follows the chain through to delivery. You can commission a single certificate or a coordinated family dossier.

Start with the document, its origin and its destination
A UK birth certificate for use abroad, a UAE-issued marriage certificate and a power of attorney signed in another country can require different routes. Your present address does not determine which authority can legalise the document.
We identify the issuing country, the document holder, the intended procedure and the receiving organisation. We then confirm the required original or certified copy, acceptable age, language and authentication sequence. Where names have changed, we connect the supporting marriage, adoption or name-change records so the file explains the difference.
If the larger question is which residence route your family can use, residence rights and citizenship explains that decision. Here, the assignment is to prepare the documents for a defined use.

An apostille, a translation and attestation do different jobs
An apostille authenticates the signature, the signer's capacity and, where applicable, the seal or stamp on a public document. It does not certify the truth of its contents. Under the Hague Apostille Convention, the receiving country, issuing country and document must fall within the applicable convention relationship.

UK documents and electronic apostilles
For UK documents, the Legalisation Office offers paper apostilles and eligible electronic apostilles. UK birth, death, marriage, civil partnership and adoption certificates cannot receive an e-Apostille. A qualifying electronic document must be a PDF electronically signed by a UK notary or solicitor, and its recipient must accept that format.
The UAE attestation route
For document attestation in the UAE, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs distinguishes UAE-issued documents from those issued abroad. Its digital route is for supported original digital UAE documents intended for use outside the UAE. A scan of a paper certificate is not an original digital document. Foreign-issued documents follow the relevant UAE mission route. We establish the complete chain for your particular origin and destination before ordering work.
Translation and the recipient's requirements
A translation makes the content usable in another language. The recipient's requirements determine the translator's qualification, certification and whether authentication must precede or follow translation. Ordering a generic translation first can mean paying for the same work again.
Obtain the correct record from the right issuing body
We establish whether your existing certificate is suitable or whether the registry or other issuing body needs to supply a replacement. For a power of attorney, the receiving lawyer, bank or registry confirms the required wording and form before it is signed.
The UK Legalisation Office handles eligible UK documents; foreign documents must be legalised through their country of issue. Some documents need a notary or solicitor's certification first. We organise those appointments and instructions, then track the document between the issuer, professional, legalisation authority and intended recipient.

Protect the originals and build the timetable around their use
We record who holds each original, where it is going, how it will be returned and whether it is needed for another appointment. If a deadline is approaching, obtaining the record, certification, translation, authority processing and delivery all belong in the timetable.
The FCDO's published standard paper-apostille timeframe is usually up to 25 working days plus delivery, with the current period shown at application; eligible e-Apostilles are listed at up to two working days. These are authority-processing periods, not the total time for a complete dossier. Signature verification can add time.
For UAE courier-based attestation, MoFA requires an original in Arabic or English, or a legally certified translation, with the necessary prior certification. Laminated documents are not accepted. We check these physical requirements before dispatch.

Keep queries moving until the agreed work is complete
EXOBASIS prepares the submission, books agreed appointments, coordinates translators and other professionals, and follows requests for clarification. You receive a specific request when a signature, original or personal attendance is needed, with the reason and next deadline.
If a record is rejected, we identify the stated reason and organise the correction before another submission. We keep the versions and correspondence together so the receiving institution can follow the document's history. For the wider application, use residence and document preparation.

Receive the finished documents and an understandable cost record
Your handover identifies each document, its original or digital form, completed authentication and translation steps, intended use and any remaining recipient action. We confirm the location of physical originals and provide the agreed working copies. If the documents are for a residence application, residence and document preparation connects this handover to the remaining submission, appointment and follow-up steps.
As retrieved on 26 September 2026, GOV.UK lists the standard paper apostille at £45 per document plus postage or courier charges, and the e-Apostille at £35. Certificate replacement, certification, translation, consular work and EXOBASIS coordination are separate items. The proposal distinguishes them so you can compare the cost of the whole document chain.
We also explain which papers belong in your family's emergency document preparation, where copies will be accessible and when a new version may be needed.

Collaboration and what follows

During the assignment
How we work together
At the outset, tell us the type of document, its issuing country, its intended use and your deadline. Document images and personal records follow through the protected working channel. You provide required authorisations and attend appointments that require you personally; we organise the remaining agreed work.

After the handover
The next practical step
If the documents are part of an application, we can connect their preparation to your residence dossier and submission. If you already have the application handled, the document assignment can stand on its own.
